U.S. Ends Duty-Free Treatment for Low-Value Chinese Imports Under $800, Imposes New Tariffs
The United States has announced the elimination of duty-free privileges for low-value imports from China, effective May 2, 2025. Under the new policy, all packages valued below $800 will be subject to either a 30% tariff or a $25 flat fee per item—whichever is higher. This fee will increase further to $50 per package starting June 1, 2025, significantly raising costs for small-scale e-commerce and direct-to-consumer shipments from China.
